Pickleball – A Simple Game

The game of pickleball has been around for over 30 years. It was developed in Florida and was initially played at the YMCA by students from Florida Atlantic University. The name “pickleball” came about because of the fact that the ball looked like a pickle when viewed from above. The game evolved into a very popular sport and has become quite popular in the United States.

Pickleball is played on a court that is divided into two halves by a net. One half of the court is referred to as the “net side.” The net side is the area where the ball is hit back to the player. The other half of the court is referred as the “service side.” This side is the area where the player serves the ball back to the opposing team. Pickleball is played by two teams of two players each. Each team consists of one man and one woman. There are many different rules that govern the play of the game. The most basic rule is that the player must keep their feet inside the boundaries of the court. A player can be called out of bounds if they step outside of the boundaries of the court.

The rules of pickleball are simple and easy to learn. A player hits the ball back to the opponent with a paddle. The ball is hit with a paddle that is similar to a tennis racket. The paddle is about six inches long and has three or four holes drilled into it. When the ball is hit, the holes help to propel the ball in the air. The ball must bounce once before it is returned to the opposing team. If the ball does not bounce, it is considered a fault and the ball is put back into play.
