How to Play Pickleball

Pickleball is a sport that has been gaining popularity in the United States. It is played on a large tennis court with a net that is approximately two feet high and eighteen inches wide. The game is played by two people, one serving and one receiving. The ball is hit with a paddle and bounced to the opponent’s side of the court. The ball must bounce three times before it is returned to the player who hit it. A point is scored when the ball goes into the opponent’s court, or when the ball hits the net.

The game was invented in the early 1960s by Dr. John P. McEnroe and Bill Talbert, both of whom were avid tennis players. They had an idea to use a tennis net to play the game, but they needed a more interesting way to hit the ball. They hit a ball with a paddle and it bounced twice, then hit the net and bounced once more. They realized that the ball would not bounce out of the court as it would if it bounced only once. The two men came up with the name “pickleball.”

The game was first played in Florida, where it was called “paddle tennis.” In 1970, the International Tennis Federation (ITF) recognized the game as a separate sport. The ITF began holding international competitions in 1973, and now there are over 20 countries that recognize the game as a legitimate sport.

Pickleball is very similar to tennis, but there are some differences. There are no serves or volleys in pickleball. Instead, the player who hit the ball can serve from any position on the court. The server must be at least three feet behind the baseline to begin his serve. If the ball goes out of bounds, the server must stand behind the baseline. Players cannot hit the ball until it bounces out of bounds. Players must wait until the ball bounces out of bounds before hitting it. If a player hits the ball before it bounces out of bounds, the ball will go back into play.

There are four types of strokes in pickleball. The forehand is used to hit the ball from the left side of the court. The backhand is used to hit the same ball from the right side of the court. The serve is used to hit the ball while standing behind the baseline. The smash is used to hit the ball after it bounces out of bounds.
